Yeast Infection Treatment - Go Natural

I came across this article and thought it was worth sharing with people who might be looking for help with finding a yeast infection treatment. The article points out that it is possible to cure a yeast infection with natural or herbal remedies.

Yeast Infection Cures - Tips On How To Cure Yeast Infections Naturally - When looking for a yeast infection cure, most women would automatically think of pharmaceutical solutions such as over-the-counter drugs. However, particular natural or herbal remedies may work just as well or even better, while also costing much less. These remedies are also often easier to do, and would provide women with a greater sense of control over their own bodies.

One of the most common choices of women with yeast infections trying to cure themselves is plain yogurt. Lactobacillus acidophilus, the bacterium found in yogurt, is also naturally found in healthy vaginas. These bacteria help to kill yeast by producing hydrogen peroxide, which is fatal to the fungi. Yogurt can be directly applied to the vulva, and also injected into the vagina through various means. Some common ways include using a needle-less syringe, or freezing the yogurt inside plastic tampon applicators and inserting the resulting frozen yogurt sticks.

Eating a lot of yogurt may also help, but of course this would not be as effective as actual application, in the case of an existing infection. However, as a preventive measure, adding yogurt to the diet can be a good decision. This may also be an option in case the patient is a child, in which case suppositories and other medication may be out of the question.

Another common food that surprisingly can also help with yeast infections is garlic. Garlic contains some natural substances that kill fungi, including yeast. Garlic is fairly common, and this remedy is quite easy to implement. Simply take some cloves of garlic and peel off their papery skins. Wrapping these cloves in gauze or cheesecloth securely can then make a sort of tampon for easy insertion into the infected area. In fact, inserting the cloves themselves is also an option - these cloves usually work their way out eventually. (But do not try it if you are not prepared to have a friend (or a doctor) remove any stubborn cloves later!)

These remedies using yogurt or garlic will be most appropriate for mild yeast infections, or infections that have been discovered at an early stage. For more severe infections, these treatments may not be strong enough to completely eradicate the yeast.

In those cases, potassium sorbate is a more potent option for treatment. Potassium sorbate is a fungicide that is actually widely used for preserving foods, and in the beer making process to inhibit yeast growth at the proper times. Potassium sorbate would thus be available at natural food stores, or wherever brewing supplies may be sold. A 3% solution would be enough for use to treat yeast infections. A tampon should be soaked in this solution and then applied at night or around bedtime to be removed in the morning, and this treatment continued until the infection abates.

Another pretty strong yeast infection cure utilizes boric acid. Now, those who wish to try this treatment should be warned that it may cause slight discomfort or burning sensations, as well as increased discharge. However, it is easy to use just by filling small capsules with boric acid and using them as suppositories. They will melt and release the boric acid eventually, once inserted.

With the advent of technology and more and more scientists becoming interested in alternative medicines, it would not be a surprise to see more of these natural remedies against yeast infection in the coming years. What is even more interesting is that this is one area in which science is only now catching up to the more natural healing methods. Most of the”newly discovered” treatments have been in use for centuries throughout the world.

  1. Yeast Infection Home Remedy Says:

Yup. Garlic was one of my favorite home remedies. I would apply a garlic paste to the area for up to 12 hours at a time for a couple of days and bam! no more infection.

It burns a bit, but the remedy is well worth the trouble. I highly recommend it if you need the infection gone in a couple of days. Great article BTW!
